Benefits of cannabis root

Cannabis leaves and inflorescences are widely used in the treatment of various diseases, but the root of the plant also has a medicinal effect. Its benefits have been known for centuries. The Roman historian Pliny the Elder wrote about antispasmodic and other therapeutic properties in his Natural Histories, and by the end of the 17th century, doctors prescribed it for fever, arthritis, gout, joint pain, burns, tumors, and various inflammations.

It has been scientifically proven that cannabinoids - the active components of cannabis - are indeed effective in pain, spasms, cramps, inflammation, and even in the treatment of cancer - research is ongoing in this regard, but there are already results in the suppression of cancer development by cannabinoids. However, hemp roots do not contain these substances: no THC, no CBD, no other known cannabinoids. Then what is the use of these parts of hemp?

Active compound in cannabis roots

Although the roots do not contain cannabinoids, they are high in terpenoids, including triterpenoids, sterols, and minor compounds such as choline. These components also have significant therapeutic value. In particular, modern biochemical studies confirm their effectiveness in inflammation, high temperature (antipyretic effect), pain and various tumors. This information should not be a call for self-treatment with cannabis roots, since the exact working dosage, the presence of side effects and contraindications are not yet known. However, formulations are already being developed, and preparations based on hemp root with the above indications for use may soon appear.

Meanwhile, hemp-based cosmetics appear on the markets of the USA, Canada and Europe: lotions, lip balms, sprays, massage oil. It is assumed that they have anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, and also have a good effect on the tone and appearance of the skin.
