Indoors, the grower himself regulates the microclimate, which allows you to successfully grow even the most whimsical varieties. The downside is an increase in costs - especially for electricity - and limited space. If there is enough money and space, then you can buy, in fact, any strains: most give an excellent harvest under artificial lamps and ventilation. If the task is to get a good harvest with a relatively small investment, then you need to choose special hemp seeds for the premises.
What to pay attention to
Autoflowering strains. Unlike photoperiod strains, autos do not need to shorten their daylight hours to flower. For normal development, they need to receive 18-20 hours of light per day. It would seem that this will only increase costs, but in fact, autoflowers go through a full life cycle in 8-10 weeks, unlike photoperiod ones, which only take, on average, so much time to bloom. The breeding process is more complicated than it might seem, although, in general, it is described in one sentence: grow plants and select the best ones with the desired characteristics, get seeds, plant again, select again ... And so on until a stable hybrid with the desired properties appears.
What are the selection criteria
Yield, THC content as the main psychoactive component, size and structure of the bush, vitality and adaptability, flowering speed and bud characteristics are fairly obvious parameters for selection. Less obvious, but still very important, are:
the ratio of inflorescences to leaves: the more flowers and fewer leaves on the cola, the better. A ratio of 7:1 is considered excellent, but plants with a ratio of 1:1 or 2:1 are unlikely to pass the control;
leaf shape: taken into account when developing a variety for specific climatic conditions;
When inspecting inflorescences, among other things, pay attention to the size of the trichomes, the even distribution of the resins, and how quickly the components of cannabis break down during long storage.
Why can't everyone become a breeder?
Knowledge of Mendel's laws, the ability and ability to work with a large number of bushes - the larger the plantation, the higher the chance of success - as well as the means to cultivate these areas. Yes, you can use the technique of early selection - to deal with sprouts, then care costs are reduced, but this technique does not always work. And, most importantly, what breeders need is the ability / desire to gain experience over the years.
