In the United States, the Indians opened a legal resort
In the US, the Indians tried to open a legal resort for the consumption of cannabis and other soft drugs. The inhabitants of the reservation in the state of South Dakota tried to create such a recreational zone.
Negotiations regarding such a business idea were held at a fairly high level - they were attended by the US Department of Justice and the state's attorney. However, the Indians failed to obtain permission to open a thematic resort area.
The authors of the idea do not intend to give up and will fight for the implementation of their plan, submitting a package of documents to obtain the necessary permits again.
Many US states have already legalized medical use of marijuana, but this is not the case in the Dakotas (both South and North).
In these states, there are traditionally strong positions of harsh Republicans, who did not allow the positions of the bill on the medical use of cannabis to be realized in the legislation. The activists who drafted the bill decided to take a detour and collect a sufficient number of signatures under an appeal for a referendum that would consider the issue of legalizing soft drugs. If the people of the state support the idea, the legislature will be obliged to listen to public opinion.
In North Dakota, 17.6 thousand signatures were collected under the appeal (only 13.5 thousand had to be collected to initiate a referendum). And in South Dakota, the issue hung at the stage of collecting signatures - the idea could not gather enough supporters for a referendum.
The legalization of soft drugs and, in particular, marijuana for medical purposes in many states is explained not only by the desire to alleviate the condition of those who suffer, but also by financial gain. At the same time, in the North and South Dakotas, state leaders are confident that after the legalization of "weed" will have to deal with multiple cases of abuse. Therefore, instead of profit, such a step will bring losses, because new regulatory bodies will have to be created. According to experts, regulating the legal cannabis market will cost the budget of North Dakota $ 2 million.
At this stage in the development of events, the responsible authorities verify the authenticity of the signatures under the appeal initiating the referendum.
