Non feminized cannabis seeds
Non-feminized seeds - they are regular - produce both male and female plants. If the task is to get inflorescences (cones), then the “boys” are removed from the plantation before flowering. They are only needed to pollinate female cannabis and produce new seeds. Thanks to regular grains, feminized varieties appeared in the 80s, with their help, seed banks expand their range. Regular seeds are a breeding material, or a good trainer for beginners.
Non-feminized seeds vs. fems
For breeders, the benefits of regular seeds are obvious: they are the basis for creating future hybrids. Selection is based on a combination of varieties with different dominant properties. And if the task is to create your own hybrid, then regular seeds with the right characteristics are the first necessity.
But what is the benefit for those who take the grain for themselves, not going to indulge in experiments? The main advantage of regular seeds in this case is that the price is significantly lower than for feminized ones. This means that failures are not so scary and there is an opportunity to hone your skills in caring for seedlings. The chance of getting females is increased to 70% when creating conditions that are comfortable for the plant. The more stress the cannabis plant experiences - low or too high temperatures and humidity, more than 14 hours of daylight hours - the higher the risk of developing male plants.
Cannabis sex is determined at the pre-flowering stage - the period of transition from vegetation to flowering. But male traits develop earlier than female ones, so plants begin to be checked already in the second or third week of development. As soon as the pre-flowers characteristic of the "boys" - spherical, on legs - are found, the plants are removed from the plantation.
Regular seeds are good when there is a large area for "training". If the skill of proper plant care is learned, the reward will be a big harvest. And if the harvest does not take place, then the low price of seeds will mitigate the consequences of failure.
