What is the maximum percentage of THC that can be in hemp?

Over the past few decades, a couple of hundred new cannabis strains have been bred, many of which have high levels of THC. This begs the question, "What is the maximum percentage of THC that can be in marijuana?"

According to Washington state I-502 testing, one of the strongest strains might be Ghost OG. Ghost OG is a hybrid plant with a mysterious origin story, probably only written on the ancient walls of an online forum. However, this is said to be shorthand for the original OG Kush passed from one manufacturer ORGNKID to another under the name "Ghost".

His story is known to few, more than once he was the best at the Cannabis Cup festival. Visual inspection characteristic: dense leaves covered with crystal white trichomes, Ghost OG produces a large amount of resin. It produces a magnificent strong aroma that smells like lemon with hints of pine and deep earthy goodness. Acquired Ghost OG genetics was used to breed several other stamps such as Ghost Train Haze, Rare Dankness #1- Banana Kush.

Advances in cannabis lab testing have helped quantify the terms "strength" and "potency" - a percentage point that many consumers now look to when choosing cannabis seed. While we now know that subjective intensity is determined by the harmony of cannabinoids and terpenes, many people focus on the THC content first when looking for a powerful strain.

Thanks to genetic selection and advances in cultivation technology, hemp plants can now produce over 25% THC.

The average THC content of Ghost OG is lab-recorded at over 28%, the highest in the dataset. Compare that to the average THC content of these popular strains:

Why is the average percentage of THC Ghost OG so much higher? Could it be that these valuable Ghost genetics ended up in the hands of particularly talented propagators and cultivators, while the performance evaluation of the widespread "generic" OG Kush was skewed by lackluster examples?

Earlier this year in Washington state, for example, some labs were suspected of artificially inflating THC profiles to make customer samples more powerful, perhaps to give them an advantage over other labs. Again, the dataset used excludes dubious data sources.

Keep in mind the biological limits of THC production, the chemical ceiling is about 30%.

Which strain contains the most THC in a single color will almost certainly be the subject of ongoing debate as all data is collected and evaluated. It's clear at this point that Ghost OG stands out among the resin queens of 2017, but which strains will rise to the throne next?
