How industrial hemp is grown

In Ukraine, for the germination of seeds of psychoactive varieties comes administrative or criminal liability, but there are no prohibited finocannabinoids in technical hemp. This is a valuable raw material with a very high profitability - up to 70% - for the cultivation of which farmers follow a number of important rules.

Temperature and humidity greatly affect cannabis yields

The quality and yield of hemp is laid during the growing season of the plant. In order for it to develop well, it is necessary to provide it with heat, moisture and fertilizer. Let's focus on the first two points:

Warm. Hemp seeds germinate at a temperature of 1-3C, withstanding frosts down to -6C. That is why they can be planted in early spring, when the soil is warmed up by 5-10C. The vegetation phase begins at the third internode and during this period the temperature should be at the level of 18-20C, and rise to 25C 1-2 weeks before flowering. The plant is actively growing up and increasing the green mass. A sharp drop in temperature will cause stress and negatively affect the crop.

During the growing season, it is optimal to maintain moisture in the soil at the level of 70-80%. Dry air is best tolerated by southern varieties of hemp, but even in them, with a lack or excess of humidity, growth slows down, which negatively affects the quality of stems and crops.

How Fertilizer Increases Yields

Cannabis is sensitive to soil quality: plants will not be able to grow normally if there is a lack of nitrogen, potassium and other nutrients. For example, to get a centner of fiber, you need to make an average of 12-15 kg of nitrogen, 8-9 kg of potassium and 3.5-4 kg of phosphorus per square meter of soil. When fertilizing the soil, farmers monitor its acid-base balance, maintaining it at a level of 7.1-7.4. Hemp grows best in black soil, dark gray podzolic soil and peat, but only if the groundwater is below 75 cm. Worst of all - in clay, sod-podzolic and sandy soil. It is good to plant hemp in the ground after winter cereals and cereal legumes, potatoes, sugar beets, corn. If the climate in the area is dry, lands after clover, alfalfa, sweet clover and other perennial legumes are suitable.

You can combine organic and mineral fertilizers. From the first group, manure and compost are suitable. For the preparation of poor soils in arid areas, you need to add 6 kg per square meter, for fertile soil you will need half as much. The quality of soddy-podzolic lands can be improved by liming, the required amount is calculated from the value of hydrolytic acidity. The norm of mineral fertilizers for soils after potatoes, sugar beets and corn is 9-12 kg of nitrogen and 6-9 kg of potassium with phosphorus (calculated per square meter). Soddy-podzolic soils are best fertilized with phosphorite flour.
